ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 
Hard Skills Training is all about equipping seasonal seasonal staff and volunteers in the skills needed for leading our Horse and Sr. Boys/Sr. Girls out-tripping programs.

 

The focus will be on developing solid program and out-tripping leadership skills in the area of group management in camping. Areas of skill development will be in leading groups in camp set-up and in on-trail and off-trail activities.

Below you will find information regarding the location, dates, times, and who to contact for our Hard Skills Training Weekends.

 

Cancellation Policy

  1. If camp capacity numbers are reduced due to Government COVID restrictions, and camp has to reduce enrolment in registration: Priority registrations will be given by date of registration. Once we have reached our event capacity for participants/staff onsite, a waitlist will be set up and the participant will be placed on it.
 
  1. In the event a camp session is cancelled due to a COVID outbreak, there are government mandates to shut down camp for all or part of the season, or due to any other reason, the camp will issue a refund for the value of the fees of the unexpired term.
 
  1. If the participant or parent/guardian chooses to withdraw their event registration, regular cancellation policies will be in effect:
 

Basic Wrangler Weekend Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations occurring 7 days or more prior to the event will receive a full refund less a $5.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 7 days prior to the event will receive NO REFUNDS except for medical reasons with a note form a doctor. In that case, you will receive a full refund less the administration fee.
 

Horse Out-Trip Skills Training Weekend Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations occurring 7 days or more prior to the event will receive a full refund less a $5.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 7 days prior to the event will receive NO REFUNDS except for medical reasons with a note form a doctor. In that case, you will receive a full refund less the administration fee.
 

OCC Field Leader (Equine) Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations occurring 7 days or more prior to the event will receive a full refund less a $20.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 7 days prior to the event will receive NO REFUNDS except for medical reasons with a note form a doctor. In that case, you will receive a full refund less the administration fee
 

OCC Field Leader (Overnight & Maps) Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations occurring 7 days or more prior to the event will receive a full refund less a $20.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 7 days prior to the event will receive NO REFUNDS except for medical reasons with a note form a doctor. In that case, you will receive a full refund less the administration fee.
 

Spring Wrangler Weekend Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations occurring 7 days or more prior to the event will receive a full refund less a $5.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 7 days prior to the event will receive NO REFUNDS except for medical reasons with a note form a doctor. In that case, you will receive a full refund less the administration fee.
 

All Events: No refund will be made for dismissals due to disciplinary action, late arrivals, or early departures. If a participant is unwell while at camp, and it is determined that withdrawal from the event is required, the camp will credit the participant the value of fees for the unexpired term.

  • If your reason for cancelling is related to COVID-19, please notify our office.

Nut/Peanut Policy

InterVarsity’s Pioneer Camp Alberta cannot guarantee to be a nut/peanut free environment. We do seek to reduce the risk of exposure and therefore do not use or serve peanuts, peanut products or tree nuts on camp property. Nuts or products containing nuts will not be available in our Tuck Shop(s). However, the food we purchase may contain traces of nut products. Please do not bring any food items with you to camp that contain nut products (this includes chocolate bars, granola bars, etc.). Any items containing nut products will be removed from the camp.

OCC Field Leader (Equine) Course

Location: Pioneer Ranch, Rocky Mountain House

Horse Out-Trip Skills Training

Location: Pioneer Lodge, Sundre

 

Core Objectives: The Horse Out-Trip Skills Weekend will focus on safely leading a riding out-trip. From route planning, to keeping campers entertained on the trail, to setting up camp and care of horses.

OCC Field Leader (Overnight & Maps) Course

PREREQUISITE: Note: This course is an additional module and requires successful completion of a Field Leader (Hiking), Field Leader (Paddling) or Field Leader (Equine) Course to be enrolled. For more information, contact course organizer.

  • Dates: July 6 to 8
    • Wednesday, July 6: 7:00 to 9:00 pm (in person)
    • Thursday, July 7 & Friday, July 8: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (in person)

Basic Wrangler Training

Location: Pioneer Ranch, Rocky Mountain House

 

Core Objectives: The Basic Wrangler Weekend is for anyone who has an interest in being at the barns this summer (at either our Lodge or Ranch sites).

This weekend will focus on either refreshing you about or introducing you to our catch and saddle and trail protocols. We will cover how a typical day at summer camp would run: starting with bringing the herd in, catching horses, saddling, getting rides out safely, exploring the trails for everyone to be familiar with and end of day routine.
