  • LOOKING FOR A WAY TO HELP CAMP IN A HANDS-ON WAY?

  • Come join us for a weekend of fun, community and getting our hands dirty as we prepare our facilities for all those that will be joining us for camp this summer!
  • EVERY MAY LONG WEEKEND PIONEER RANCH HOSTS A WORK CAMP AT THE RANCH TO HELP GET READY FOR SUMMER CAMP!

  • Cost of the weekend is free, but donations are greatly appreciated to offset meal & supply costs for the weekend.

It’s guaranteed to be a time of enjoying God’s creation, an opportunity of using your skills (whatever they may be!) at camp, experiencing some great activities & times of relaxation, making new friends & spending time with old ones and having some quality camp-fire time!

 

Come prepared to work hard, see the reward of your efforts, fellowship and have fun with some great friends while doing it!

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Location: Pioneer Ranch, Rocky Mountain House
  • Dates: Friday, May 20 to Monday, May 23
  • Arrival Time: Friday, May 20th @ 7:00 pm
  • Departure Time: Monday, May 23rd @ 1:00 pm
  • Meals: Provided (First Meal: Saturday, breakfast)
  • Cost: Weekend is free, but donations are greatly appreciated to offset meal &
    project costs.

UPON ARRIVAL

  • Drive all the way into the camp to register at the Ranch House & unload.
  • Ranch House Unloading/Loading Zone Time Limit: 15 minutes.
  • Once unloaded, all cars are to be moved to the Ranch parking lot.

DONATION & PROJECT INFORMATION

Donation Information

 
Donations towards meal costs for the weekend and for project materials can be made online as part of the registration process.

 
Any donation over $20 is eligible for a tax receipt.

 
If materials are purchased in advance of the weekend, please bring receipts so that a tax receipt can be issued.

 

Proposed Projects for Work Weekend RANCH

 
Actual projects undertaken dependent upon number of volunteers and skill level available. Projects can be signed up for upon arrival and throughout weekend.

 
If you have your own tools for the Work Weekend projects, please bring them to increase our ability to complete our various projects.

 

Barns Projects

 

Replacing Fence Rails
  • Replacing rails at the corrals and along the driveway.
  • Age Requirements: 18+ with prior experience and appropriate skill set
  • Project Needs & Costs: Donations of $12-14/rail to cover the cost of rail replacements.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects

Scoop Poop!
  • Helping clean up around the Barns area.
  • Age Requirements: All ages welcome!
  • Project Needs & Costs: No cost, just willing hands. (Gloves suggested to keep those hands willing!)
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects

 

Site Projects

 

Chimney Sweeping
  • Cleaning out the chimneys of Camper Cabins, Ranch House & North Lodge
  • Age Requirements: 13+ (with parental supervision for those under 18)
  • Project Needs & Costs: Willing hands & being comfortable working on  ladder or roof are all that is required.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Cleaning Gutters
  • Cleaning gutters of debris from all of the Ranch buildings
  • Age Requirements: 13+ (with parental supervision for those under 18)
  • Project Needs & Costs: Willing hands & being comfortable working on a ladder or roof are all that is required.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Firewood
  • Cutting up downed trees using a chainsaw
  • Splitting wood with splitting axe or wood splitter
  • Stacking wood
  • Age Requirements: 18+ with prior experience using chainsaw, 15+ (with parental supervision for those under 18) to use wood splitter, 13+ (with parental supervision for those under 18) to use splitting axe, any age can stack wood
  • Project Needs & Costs: You can contribute toward chainsaw gas and oil if you like, but otherwise this project is paid for with sweat and tears! (We’d like to avoid blood if at all possible)
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Fixing Screen Doors
  • Replacing screen netting on 2 doors
  • Building 5 new doors
  • Age Requirements: 15+
  • Project Needs & Costs: Estimated cost for netting is $50/door x 7 doors
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Gardening
  • Weeding and planting in the Roundabout & Ranch House flower beds.
  • Age Requirements: All ages welcome!
  • Project Needs & Costs: Donations toward plants or gifts-in-kind variety* would be much appreciated.
  • *If you are donating plants, please touch base with the Ranch Office first.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Oil Changes for 4 Camp Vehicles
  • Changing oil, greasing, checking all fluids, checking for minor problems.
  • Age Requirements: 16+, with prior experience and appropriate skill set.
  • Project Needs & Costs: Estimated cost is $125/vehicle x 4.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Painting 3 Cabins
  • Numerous interior and exterior painting projects to choose from including: cabin interiors and exteriors, window trim, graffiti removal, etc.
  • Age Requirements: 10+
  • Project Needs & Costs: Donations of both the monetary and gifts-in-kind variety* would be much appreciated for the numerous painting projects we have at the Ranch.
  • Estimated cost is $150/cabin x 3.
  • *Quality brushes, rollers, trays, paints, thinners etc.
  • Please note if you are planning on donating paint: colour & type will need to be approved prior to use (even if a neon pink cabin seems like a really good idea…).
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects

Raking & Grounds Clean-Up
  • General yard work
  • Age Requirements: All ages welcome!
  • Project Needs & Costs: No cost, just willing hands! (Glove suggested to keep those hands willing!)
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Ranch House Cleaning
  • A deep clean of the Ranch House, including dusting and corners.
  • Age Requirements: All ages welcome!
  • Project Needs & Costs: Willing hands and a positive attitude! You can also bring along any of your favourite cleaning supplies as well.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Roof Replacements
  • Replacing roofs on buildings.
  • Age Requirements: 18+, with prior experience and appropriate skill set; 13+ assisting (with parental supervision for those under 18)
  • Project Needs & Costs: Project dependent on materials.
  • Monetary contributions or quality physical supplies* would be much appreciated. Cost per cabin is $3000 each.
  • *If you are donating materials, please touch base with the Ranch Office first.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Sweeping Off Roofs
  • Removing debris from the roofs of Staff & Camper Cabins
  • Age Requirements: 13+ (with parental supervision for those under 18)
  • Project Needs & Costs: Willing hands and being comfortable working on a ladder or roof are all that is required.
  • Tools & Items Needed for Ranch Projects
 
Washing Windows
  • Washing windows in the Ranch House & Cabins
  • Age Requirements: 14+
  • Project Needs & Costs: Willing hands and positive attitude are all we need to get this project done as camp already has all the necessary supplies.
